Wink Key ordered - now not needed

My car was broken into and my wife's handbag stolen. Her key/immobiliser was in the bag together with our address so I ordered a new key and a reprogramming appointment immediately. I was asked by the garage to pay for the new key before they would take the order. Then - a couple of days before I was due to take the car in to the garage someone found the keys, a hundred miles from my house. Great - but is it fair and reasonable to ask for a refund from the garage or in ordering the new key will they have had to spend money?

In the UK the Consumer Contract Act 2014 gives a cooling off period for good purchased online or over the phone. Would it apply?
