IAC valve spring- which way does it go?

Default IAC valve spring- which way does it go?
The spring in the IAC valve has a little plastic fitting on one end. Does that fitting go up into the valve coil, or down into the moveable plunger thing? I'm wondering if the previous owner put the dang thing together wrong. Thanks,
