How does the Speed 6 compare?
Just curious, have any of you speed 6 owners out there taken them to the track and/or raced another vehicle i.e. rx8, mustang, evo, Sti? I've tried, but I can't get anybody to run with me. I NEED to see how this care stands up to others out there. I especially wanna run a mustang to see if this car really is faster than my 04 Mustang GT. It feels faster, but the thing is so quiet it's decieving. I just MUST KNOW. Please - tell me your stories! Hope I don't offend anyone by posting this, I just wanna know how this car stands up to the competition, because I can't get any competition in mine. All stories welcome, doesn't have to just be speed 6.
well the speed 6 goes 0-60 in 5.9 seconds if I remember correctly. At least the 5.5 to 5.9 range. You problably wouldn't beat a Mustang GT (V8). But you would beat most sports cars in the turns!
I had an 04 Mustang GT and I'd rather have this car! I loved my Mustang GT, I wish I still had it, but this car is so much nicer for the day to day and is just about as quick. The Car and Driver numbers for the Speed 6 are 0-60 in 5.4 and 1/4 mile in 14 flat. Considering this is a 3600 pound car, that's quick in my book. They got a Mustang GT to 60 in 5.1 and quarter mile in 13.8. That's gonna boil down to the driver. Interesting to me is that this car that is about 300 pounds heavier does a .87g skidpad versus the .86 of the muscle car, and brakes from 60 in 15 less feet. Not bad at all, but I NEED to run this myself. Any of you guys have any good stories for me?
Edit: I took my mustang to California Speedway in fontana and did the 1/4 in 14.2 with a little wheelspin. I don't know if I wanna take this there yet or not, but I wanna know what I run in the car. I guess that'll be the best comparo for me. Knowing which car I am faster in...

I agree the Speed6 is a much better daily driver and that the performance difference between the Mustang and Speed6 (or Speed3 for that matter) will come down to the driver. It will also be easier to drag race the Speed6 with the AWD launch helping you out. I say go run it.[sm=devilgrin.gif]
I own both a 6 and a 3, so I've been impressed with Mazda thus far. Next year I plan on selling my 3 and going with the Speed3. Again, I think that would make a better daily driver than a Mustang, same performance and ~30-40% better mileage. You can also get a loaded Speed3 for the price of the base Mustang GT....It's the new performance bargain in town.
Now if I wanted something to really modify a ton and make super fast for track use, I'd be going with the Mustang.

I had plans on installing a twin turbo kit on the Stang. As well as a full steeda racing suspension, Mustang cobra rear end for the IRS, Tremec T56 six speed trans, and better wheels to fit some fat tires in the back. Mustangs have so much available for tuning. There aren't many options for the speed 6, at least not yet.

So far, the best car I've taken down is a 95 Pontiac Trans Am with the LT1 (350 ci). Spanked on 'em from a standstill, and pulled a little from a 40mph 3rd gear start all the way through sixth. I've also taken a Subaru Impreza STi from a start through 4th.
