Wife and I were babying a 2000 Buick LeSabre with so many little problems and 230,000 miles, transmission finally close to giving out and instead of looking for a shop that wouldn't charge thousands we decided to research new cars. We landed a 2014 Mazda6 with 14,000 miles on it for $16,000 at Carmax and went for it. Near brand new car with low miles and good gas mileage and overall reliability (got sick of replacing sooo many things myself on the Buick), and with all our research the Mazda6 sounded like a good buy, and this one seemed like a nice opportunity.
We have driven it for four months now and its truly a treat! Didn't get lucky with quite all the bells and whistles, no sport mode or headlight sideways tracking, but the skid control, rear camera, bose sound system, touchscreen media center, all a few of the cooler things we love.

So are there any nasty surprises I can expect? I couldn't find any online, one problem the Buick had were window regulators that broke once every 2 years, at $70 and $150 a pop for rear and front. Had I researched well back then I wouldn't have gone for that car hehe.

One specific question I have is about the tires. It came with four near new looking Yokohama Advan A83A tires, but when I checked the pressure the front ones were around 25, and the back about 30. For the life of me I couldn't find specific info online about optimal pressure, and the tires themselves say 51 max. That seemed high to me, but I've heard of benefits of slightly overinflating tires. I currently have all four at around 44. What do y'all think?
Also, any tips on keeping it tuned up? Synthetic oil or no? Should I grab some seafoam or similar products to keep engine and transmission clean, or not worry about it yet? Really want to keep this baby running well a long time

For tyre pressures, 36psi for comfort, 38 or even 40psi if your driving is sometimes enthusiastic. Just remember to check them every month.

 

You have the Skyactive motor right? Synthetic all the way. Seafoam, nope. Unless your car sits around for 30 days with the same fuel in it. With the miles you claim on the Buick, I don't see that happening.

Keep up on your basic maintenance, oil, filters, etc. and you'll get many miles from your 6. Rotate tires with every oil change and watch tread wear across the tire. If the middle wears faster than the sides, your need to drop the psi. Grim is right on with psi.
