Default First trip on new 09 Mazda6 (4 cyl)

Took it on a 800 mile run this holiday and averaged 29.2 mpg overall. Running mostly 75 mph the whole time on interstate. Great handling and seats didn't hurt my back. Steering was perfect for this duty as it required very little correction to keep on track. No hint of any lack of power. Went 400 miles and still showed 1/3 of a tank remaining. Exdellent long range cruiser from my other vehicles.

I agree. We just took it on a trip down the shore this weekend and then I took it to work today. I put over 400 miles on it and I still haven't had to refill the tank yet. I'm loving mine.

p.s. I am averaging about 26-27 mpg for this tank but that includes over 2 bleepin' hours in dead stop traffic trying to make it from the beach to the highway after the July 4th fireworks.

My mpg on my ford five hundred with 2 adults is 27 mpg from flagstaff, AZ to Los Angeles, CA. It is better than mazda 6s. Why ford is better than mazda? I guess mazda6 has sport-shift mode and Sports tires which result poor mpg even ford five hundred is a full-size sedan. I like 09 mazda6 but so much pricy compare to altima and camry.

Did someone has mpg data on 09 mazda6s(v6)?

To Ach3rOn and hawker, What trim of mazda6 you have? Is it automatic?

The 1st gen. Mazda6 s also got slightly worse milage than the V6 Ford Fusion/Mercury Millan by 1mpg and yet the Fusion/Millan and they put out more power too (221 vs. 212). I still love my 6 though. I guess it's truly an ethusiast's car.

It's the overall package vs. one positive feature that's got you hooked.

As it should be IMHO... if I have a HO??

The 500 is one nasty looking vehicle. I don't think I'd care if it got 100 mpg.

I don't know where you live but the Mazda is far cheaper than a comparably equipped Altima or Camry. It gets cheaper still with rebates that aren't being offered by Toyota or Nissan. The Camry is in no way comparable anyway as it drives like Grandpa's old Buick. The Altima and Mazda6 are both great choices but due to Nissan's ridiculous and complicated options system, you would pay out the a** to get a similarly equipped Altima, not to mention that you can only get the luxury options with the V6 which would cause your MPG to plummet and the fact that the Altima V6 requires premium fuel.

I have an automatic 6i GT (Grand Touring). I paid $23,158 + tax out the door (which is about $5100 off MSRP).

I dunno! Back home in KY they used to teach us that 29mpg IS BETTER than 27mpg. Guess I'm not up on the new math or else not understanding your question. I have the Touring with the automatic. (actually my wife's car*, I have a 06 Miata). I paid $21.5K out the door before a $1K rebate as an existing Mazda owner. I suppose that's a lot of money and I didn't realize you could get an Altima or Camery for that much less. I still would get the M6 though. It's really a nice vehicle.

* My wife allows me to make some decisions, such as: what vehicle we get for the family car, or who should be president. (others didn't listen to me on that last one though)

After about 20-30k miles, your mileage just might improve even more!! Mine did, but it did take longer than I had expected it to.
I'm now averaging 27-28 w/the A/C on vs. the 24-25 I used to get.

09 mazda6 is pretty but too expensive. My 06 mazda6s is $16,749 plus license and tax in Jan, 07.

Now, 09 Nissan Altima 2.5 is around $15,500 plus tax & license fee. 09 Camry LE is around 18,000 plus tax and License fee. Mazda 6i At is $18995 (without $1,000 mazda owner rebate). The price is almost close to Honda Accord Lx automatic. That is explained why i think too expensive.

09 Altima 2.5 is cvt automatic but without stereo, traction and stability control. My friend got an 09 Altima 2.5 last year, He paid $17,250 plus tax & license and 3 year no interest Nissan Auto Loan. He paid additional $300 to install Stereo and Speakers. There is no any issues for first 9,000 miles on his new altima.

If I would like to purchase 4 cy, I probably look at 2010 fusion or 2010 camry because of 6sp automatic. For V6, I am looking at 09 mazda6s because of same engine in Lincoln MKS.

Not to ruin anyone's fun, especially with that "drives like Grandpa's old Buick" comment...

This guy's (might as well have a Buick badge) Malibu averages 32-36 MPG cruising at 70-75MPH.
