Default Exhaust system Questions

Ok so I've been reading the forum and say a couple of posts about the exhaust system. I have an '06 3.0 V6 which does a great job already, but looking to get a deeper sound and some added horses out of the car.

So here is where I heard some difference, some people claim that the cat back system adds nothing to the horse power in the Mazda 6, just gives it a deeper sound. Others say that it's not true the cat back does exactly what it's suppose to and gives the car an extra 15+ hp.

Did anyone try it out and what where your results? Also what kind of system did you put in, I may get the magnaflow system or just get one done at a custom shop.

Thanks for any info.

I do not know anything about a catback giving 15+hp gain. I installed the Magnaflow system & got a gain of 4hp at the wheels. This is a varying discussion amongst 6 owners due to the fact that some gained hp & some did not.

See that's what I'm talking about. For the price you pay on the system 4hp kinda seems not worth it. But I do want to get a really bassy rumble to the car. What do you think I should do to get the sound I want.

Maybe just a muffler? That's something I've heard suggested before. Or you can go full catback, and plan to upgrade everything forward later (I know, that's a big chunk of the change).

It is a big expense for the improvement you see... at least in stock form, but you have to decide what you want.
Personally, I wouldn't give up my Vibrant system for the world!! It's doesn't drone, has smoothed out some of the take-off hesitation the stock system had, it doesn't disturb the neighbor's when Ileave for work @ 4AM, it hasn't hurt (or helped for that matter) my mileage, it makes hearing my shift points and what the engine is doing much easier, but is just loud enough to **** off the police... but legal, so they can't touch me!!!

Awsome the Vibrant system is sounding like what I'm looking for. I also have to leave for work around 4am. Is there any chance you can get a sound clip for me? Also how much did the system run you? Did you see any Hp gain or nothing really?

Ask and ye' shall receive!! Here's a link to my review on this site of the Vibrant followed closely by a link to a sound clip of my car with it installed.

However, Vibranthttp://www.vibrantperformance.com/ does not make a system for the 6 series, 2.3 or V6, so you'd have to buy a pair of their mufflers and (I would suggest tips too.Afterall, what's a nice sounding AM system w/o some really nice tips) and have it installed professionally by a qualified andwilling shop to take on the task.

Dude system sounds awsome thanks a lot. Kinda sucks they don't make a syestem for my car but I'll think about the mufflers with the tips. I'm also throwing around the idea of a custom exhaust and getting true duels put in. LOL I love this, just got the car about 3 weeks ago and I'm like a kid in a candy store. I'm like ooohhh I want this and this...No wait this instead...and that.... LOL it's a great feeling.

Remember that true duals will require 2 cats too. (Boy, that a lot of 2/too/two/to/dual's in one short sentence.) And who knows if you've got enough room under there?
Also not having a crossover, or "X"pipe would likely hurt your performance on the street. As one cylinder is emptying, another is filling but both valves are open together for a time. One will help scavenge the other. This improves low speed torque and efficiency (re: mileage.)Buta X pipe willhave to be stratigically placed in the system to do the most good too.
