I agree with the very low ticking as well on mine .... hopefully it doesn't increase . I wasn't thinking that until those threads came along . But a low faint ticking ; I've heard it before on other cars too ..... makes you wonder if it's not the ball bearing inside the PCV valve ticking back & forth ? Could be .

Apparently my car is going to be ok and isn't goint to explode! (btw, it's just the 4 cylinder) I took it in the morning and they called me four hours later and asked me to come out to show them exactly what it was doing because they couldn't hear anything. So I got there, started my car, and of course, couldn't hear anything because they had all the blowers and radio going in the shop...so they turned it all off and then you could hear it. I guess it's just a pully - which they're going to replace on Weds. All the issues disspeared (of course) but the tech said he reset some stuff, and it seemed to help. I was kinda frustrated that they didn't find it for themselves, but at least it's going to get fixed!!!

Well...it ended up that my problem was the tensioner belt...they ordered the part for me and replaced it in about 45 minutes... good as new with a nice quiet engine!!!

Here are a few links to the TSB's that relate to ticking noises in the 4 cylinder and V6 Mazda 6.

My dealers response to pretty much all my questions were 'It's supposed to be like that'.

The 3.0L V6 bulletin is not the fix for all ticking noises that the engine can make. When I first brought my car in to the dealer I handed them a printout of that bulletin and said that the engine is ticking and it could be this issue. They carried out the maintenance outlined in the bulletin and it did not fix the problem whatsoever. A week later they informed me that the engine assembly will need to be replaced.

Speaking of my car, I went in last Thursday for an update and saw it still parked out back. The service manager said that they can't really give me an accurate timeline of repairs until the engine gets shipped up to us from the factory. Not a huge deal since in the meantime I'm rocketting around in their POS base model Mazda 3 tin can which at lease burns less gas.

I'll post more info when I get it.
