hey guys, i have 2003 mazda 6i and i continuously hear a rattle, almost like metal rattling. i thought it may be the heat shield but im not sure. im trying not to go to the dealership so any help would be amazing...thanks guys....the car has 64,000 miles on it

 

i'm having the SAME problem! i have an '05 5 door 6i sport......it just started doin the rattling maybe a few months ago. you can only hear it when its in gear though;when its in neutral or park it disappears! but, when its in drive or reverse....man can you hear it rattle away! thankfully im still under warranty for a few hundred more miles! i'm takin it in! let me know what you find!

 

Sounds like an exhaust heat shield....With the car cold, get under the car and bang on the exhaust to see if the noise repeats. It's possible a screw backed out or loosened over time.

 

Thanks guys. well i wenty to the dealership and the guy that changed my oil said it sounds like its coming from the water pump. i did think about the heat shield and ruled that out. wish it was so simple...haha...well keep me updated on your findings and thanks for the response....matt

 

well, i took it back to the dealership and after having had it for a week and replacing both the engine AND transmissions mounts i got it back and........it STILL makes the noise!!!! so i'm taking it back! see what else they can replace....if anyone else has any info then i'd much appreciate it!!!!

 

it almost sounds like its coming from the water pump but thasts an expensive assumption so let me know what you hear and im hoping to make it to the dealership aswell and ill let you know what i/they find out.....thanks for your help man and im determined to figure out this damn rattle......
