Default Does the Mazda6 3.6 engine eat oil??

New Mazda owner here and new to this forum. Hello everybody... So I bought a Mazda6 from a reputable dealership on Nov 23rd.. 32 days ago. I checked my oil for the first time today. I usually dont wait that long between oil checks on past vehicles. But with the salesman giving me the whole spill about why I should buy a certified mazda from a dealership rather than a private party, I subconciously just didnt think it was an urgent matter. So I check my oil and it is extremely low. I end up putting in a full quart plus a half of another. Wow! Ive only been doing moderate around town driving. Either the 3.6 burns oil really fast or they never put oil in the engine. I think it is the latter. Damn. Now Ive lost all piece of mind about my purchase and the health of my engine knowing Ive been driving around with almost half the required engine oil missing. Any thoughts from the forum?

thats ok. no engine should drink oil (other than old rotary engines). just check the oil a little more often. if the car is running good and you have no check engine light, you are probably ok. just make sure that check engine light works: just get the ignition key to the on position(dont start the engine). all instrument cluster lights should turn on. look for the check engine one. once i went to check out a car to buy it and when i did the lamp test (ignition switch to on) i did not see the check engine light. when i connected my scanner, the car had about a million codes in memory. a vacuum check was enough for me to walk away from that one. besides, a misfire was obvious.

Hello Juanky,
Pretty screwed up huh? Thats why I usually never trust people to do their job right. I usually always check stuff like that. First time I trust people to do their job and I end up driving around a car with no oil. I was thinking being a quart and a half low would cause stress fractures to the valves etc that havent yet revealed themselves yet. I was thinking maybe I could tell the dealership the situation and they can buy back the car you know. I mean a 3.6 liter engine running for a month with only 2 liters of oil in it must have have done some kind of damage right?
