cooling fans turn on as soon as the key is turned on
Okay, I need the help of you expert mechanics on this one. I have been working on cars for 30yrs and can fix just about anything, but this one got me stumped.
I have a 2006 3.0L. I had an issue a couple of months ago with the engine cooling fans running all the time. I determined it was the control module so I replaced it. Problem went away. But after about a month the issue came back! So,,, I figured the fans must be drawing too much current and blowing out the control module. (heard there was a design issue with these OEM controllers) So instead of repeating the process, I replaced the entire fan assembly (including the controller). However, after all that work, the fans still come on immediately after I turn the ignition key to the on position. Funny thing is if I turn the car on and then turn the AC on, the fans then "appear" to act normal. As in cycling their speed and turning on and off to cool the engine.
I have tried all the obvious but this one has me stumped!
1. I checked the coolant temp control sensor. Good
2. I checked the fan relay. Good.
3. I checked the TCS relay. Good
4. Thermostat is working as designed
5. no check engine lights and I have plugged my OBD2 reader in and nothing found in the error codes.
Could there be yet another sensor somewhere that I missed? Could there be some kind of AC sensor?
