Considering a trade 96 Benz C280 for a 04 Mazda6
Hello All,
I currently own a 1996 C280 Benz. I put it up for sale because I was considering a newer Mercedes.
I got a call yesterday from a guy with a Mazda6 asking if I would trade with his car and pay the difference.
I'm in Costa Rica so the cost of cars down here is a little eccentric so I won't even get into the pricing but I can say it's on par with what other vehicles on the market are like.
Now the reason i'm posting is because I noticed something strange with the car and I don't know what it is. I called an agency and they said it could just be a lack of lubrication.
Basically when I got in it I noticed there is about 1 cm of play in the steering wheel. Then as I backed out I could feel a bit of a knock in the steering as I turned and backed up. Didn't notice it on the road though.
Also the car requires the 80,000 km tune up which is priced at $750 where i'm at.
The car is a 2004 Mazda6 2.3L Sport with 4 speed auto + triptronic. The car has 86,000 km.
I see some issues on here about the tranny does it apply with that transmission as well?
Thanks in advance!
Nick

I'd bet on an axle problem, but it could be other issues. It's definitley not "just be a lack of lubrication". Also, I'd be concerned with parts availability. I've found that parts aren't well stocked by US dealers, I can only imagine the problems you'd have down there.
Honestly I didn't plan to keep the car. Just that it's an easier car to sell then mine, but I don't want to buy a car that would potentially be a problem for me.
Anyway not really an issue received a mail this morning that he doesn't want to do the trade as his wife didn't like my car.
