Alarm and rear wheel bearings
First post here and this looks like a great forum site. Not new to Mazda's as I had a 626 many years ago and currently have six NA MX5 Miata's in the family.
A couple years ago my girlfriend bought a 2005 Mazda 6 for her 17 year old grandson. It was not well maintained and he drove it about a year and he bought something else. I checked it out and it was running poorly and ended up being the fuel pump. It is now running and driving good and my GF is enjoying driving it and it got her out of my Infiniti when she did not want to drive her Miata.
I have had the alarm system go off four times now and am not sure what caused it. All four times the driver door was open and someone was getting out or reaching in to get something. So far, the only way that I have been able to shut off the alarm is to raise the hood and disconnect the negative cable on the battery. Sticking the key into the door and turning it or into the ignition did not stop the alarm. The problem is when the horn is blaring, I don't take time to do any research, I just want it to stop. Any suggestions?
I also just want to add a note about rear wheel bearings as I had a bit of a noise and decided to replace both. I did the utube videos and it looked pretty simple with taking off the caliper, bracket and rotor and then the nut on the axle. On the videos I watched, the entire bearing assembly was simply pulled off by hand. In my case, both inner race bearings were so stuck that I ended up having to cut them off with a side grinder to get them off. Also, heating the bearings with a torch did not help. The new bearing assemblies were a snug fit, but went on easily and stopped the noise.
