Default 30k mi checkup

Hey All.

My 2007 speed 6 is going in for it's 30k mile checkup this coming week. It has brand new tires & brakes, so they can skip that part (except for just checking it). Put the new tires on the rear as recommended by a friend of mine who races awd cars.

I'm curious what people recommend with the 30k mile checkup. Should I bring my own oil/filter? Transmission fluid? Etc? Is there anything that you guys have done special at a 30k mi checkup?

So I looked at what they were going to do for the 30k mile checkup and realized i was getting RIPPED off. Half of what they were gonna check/replace, had just been done as part of the sale (brakes, tires, etc). It was mainly a $550 oil change!

I canceled my appointment and I'm going to do my own oil change either today or tomorrow. Was wondering what you guys recommended for oil/filter for the 07 mazdaspeed 6. As far as I know it's been to mazda for all service, so it would by a synthetic blend with whatever the factory oil filter is. I'm happy to spend a little more on oil/filter if it works better. I'm especially interested in oversized filters. Do they really do a better job? Do they last longer? I tend to do a lot of driving and don't always manage to change it right at the 3k mark. If I hit 3k early in the week, I can easily put a few hundred extra miles on before I get a chance to change the oil on a weekend.

Anything in particular I should know about the car & changing the oil? Anything tucked in at odd places?

I've also never owned a turbo before. Is there anything else I should be doing when I change the oil? I'm going to go down the list of things for 30k mile checkup 1 at a time, starting w/ the oil change. Any advice you guys could give would be readily accepted.

Mine's just the V6 as well, so I don't know if what I am about to say will be relative to your situation...

I just use a Fram HD filter bought from my local parts store. I use Conklin Convoy synthetic oil and run it for 15,000 miles, changing the filters at 5k intervals. I have done this on at least 5 vehicles and never had any engine problems...

I use a cheap filter wrench that fits on the end of the filter. I have noted that this configuration of filter and wrench does not fit thru the space of the frame cross member and a tie rod or something (can't remember which...), so I think I will go to a strap-type of filter wrench because it is a pain to have to knock the wrench off the filter while it is hung up, full of oil, under the car.

Check your owner's manual on the oil capacity... the first time I did a change I only had 5 quarts of oil and mine takes 6! My full sized Chevy truck didn't even take that much oil...

Also one thing to keep in mind is how hard you drive it. If you are racing guys here and there, you may want to follow the owners manual verbatim for maintenance.

Hello all, I'm new here, but here is my 2 cents on changing the oil on a 2007 Mazda 6i. The '07 6i has a cartridge filter. You have to remove the plastic engine cover from beneath the car and its right in front. It's best to drain the filter first , turning the Allan screw on the bottom of the filter housing before removing the housing. I run Mobil 1 5W-20 Synthetic in my cars and use a fram oil filter.(dont remember which one) In my opinion all fram filters are good. The oil usually lasts me between 3-5000 miles between changes. Depends on your style of driving. I also found out that even though the owners manual says NOTHING about the transmission being serviced - it should. I have 34,500 miles on my 6i and the factory fluid is a slight pink-brownish color( I'm about to change it). All the mechanics I've talked to (except the dealer) and articles I've read on the subject say if it isn't pink it should be changed and the filter too.
