Hi I’m new to the page. My Sons Mazda 6- 3.7 L engine ran out of oil and now there is a pretty bad knocking and engine does not have full power, in fact struggles to idle. Mechanic says I need to replace it, the cost though of the 3.7 considerably more than the 2.5. That being said is it worth putting a $2000 dollar engine plus $1000 labor into this car? How difficult is this to DIY? I’m experienced in the marine industry and do most of my own auto repairs, but I realize that it may be a bit more involved, is it something I should attempt, or is $1000 labor well spent?

 

Costs twice what it should and it’s not a spectacularly awesome reliable Nox Vidmate VLC car.
