From what I understand, there will be a new mazda 6 in 2008 that is bigger and has more power. They will not make a speed6 version, at least not in 2008.
Also the only reason they decided to continue the speed6 in 2007, in limited production of course, was to fill the gap for enthusiasts until the new model comes out in 08.

As far as I know, the Speed 6 was originally intended for only 2006 as a limited production model. They are continuing into 2007 because it sold so well. There won't be, as far as I know, a Speed 6 model for '08. As far as plans for the Speed 6 on the new platform, I have no idea.

RE: 2008 mazdaspeed 6
I am seriously looking at buying a 2007 Mazdaspeed 6. There are a few still for sale in within an hours drive. I'm a little worried about how well thataluminum 4 cylinder is going to handle outputing all that power over the long term. So I was also thinking about waiting to see what the 2008 Mazda 6 will be like. But this recent info doesn't sound too appealing to a driving enthusiast:
'The 2008 Mazda 6 will be powered by Ford’s new 250-horsepower 3.5-liter “Cyclone†engine. Other engine offerings may include a 2.5-liter inline-4 powerplant, and all-wheel-drive will be a popular option on all Mazda 6 versions.'
So unless Mazdaspeed releases a sportierversionof the 2008 Mazda 6, this doesn't sound very exciting. It’s the same engine as in the current Lincoln MKZ.
Some of you were saying that they would be discontinuing the Mazdaspeed 6 after 2007. Should I buy one quick while I can still get a powerful (and made in Japan) Mazda?

I just bought 06mazda 6s during Jan, 07. Since the msrp is $7871 off MSRP even thought there were $9000 off msrp during March or Feb. I still happypick up 06 mazda 6S instead of buying nissan altima 2.5S, 06 or ford fusion v6, 06.
If you don't mind pay more for 08 mazda6, you may wait.3.5v6.If you just want bargain price, you should get 07 or 06 in this year.
I don't mindmy mazda 6s is not made in japan. It has less problems compare to o4 mazda6i. Even both cars are not made in Japan, v6 is a much better qualitythan 4cy.

I also don't trusttheFord engine that is apparently going in the 2008 Mazda6. It's a relatively new engine design from Ford.
Thereare a couple2007 Mazdaspeed6 GTs available here and I'm wondering if that might be a better choice. A little worried about how long that 4-cylinder will handle the high power output. I'm also wondering when to pull the trigger on the Mazspeed6 - there aren't too many left in dealerships.

My other car is 05 five hundred with ford duratec engine. It has 24,000 miles.Compare to 04 mazda6iat same mileages, Ford has less than warranty issues compare to mazda6i (4cy), 04. Both mazda6s and five hundred are duratec v6. That is why I said it is pretty good for ford v6.
