Default 2008 Mazda 6 GH Stereo Media Button Problem

Hi all.
Ive owned my mazda 6 for about 7 months now and ive never been able to get the aux input to work at all. Whenever i press the media button, nothing happens, and i cant select it from the controls on the steering wheel either (i can select fm, am, cd etc but there is no option for aux/media).
I've bought 2 different aux cords to try, with no luck. Everything else seems to work fine.
Its the bose system, and ive got an aftermarket port thing beside the gearbox, ill attach a picture of both.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks.

Never seen anything aftermarket wired into the "Media" system before.

Im guessing turn the switch on & off doesn't make a difference? Have you tried the USB port? Any indication if there is power to the aftermarket unit?

yep the usb port has power, it can charge a phone regardless of whether the switch is on or off. also when you use it, the media button still doesnt work but you can change to the 'EX/' channel (which does nothing) from the steering wheel controls. Ive tried plugging the aux in at the same time but no dice
