Default 2005 mazda 6 I 4cylinder loosing oil 1 qrt low aftr 200 miles

Hi,

My Dad and me just picked up a used Mazda 6I at a repital dealer.. Its a 2005 Mazda 6I with 77k (4cyl).. We were assured the car was inspected and all checked out and ready to go.. By the way the body is near show room clean and the price was onl $5500.00 . I guess that should have been a red flag there.. Any way after we got the car home later that evening we checked the oil and it was down 3 quarts.. Well, we filled it up, my Dad called the dealer the next day to complain.. We drove the car on a round trip of 225 miles and it burned a half a quart on the way there and and another half quart on the way back.. No drips, no burning oil or smell of oil from exhaust..No check engine lights either... We called the dealer on Saturday and they said to bring it in. Of course we dont plan on paying them for any repair or service. They asured us the car was fine. Its the holiday weekend and with work in all won have the car to the dealer untiil Thusday.

Any way you guys have any idea why a low milage car like this would loose oil so rapidily? 1 quart in 225 miles??

Thanks
for any help

Change your PCV valve.
Mazda never inspects it and never changes it.
Should it be changed----YES!

It is hard on the 4 cylinder----don't ask me how either! search!

Eventually your catalytic converter will become plugged, not to mention your spark plugs.

You also may want to do a engine compression test.

Default Pcv?

Dealer mention they will do compression test when we bring it in.. Will a bad PCV cause it to burn that much oil? Do PCV really ever go bad?

Yes and Yes.
A bad PCV valve may also be a result of poor compression as oil passes by the worn piston rings causing extra pressure and pushing oil through PCV valve.
Another place for oil is leaking from intake/exhaust valves from cylinder head.

Of course they do! And the hoses and stuff going to and from the valve do as well.

The compression test will tell you. You did not report any performance issues. But if it is new to you you may not know how it should feel.

I've read on other post something about an internal engine seal that goes bad. Is any one familiar with this.. where is this seal? why did the post say to replace the engine if this seal is bad?

If the vehicle has had poor servicing, or lack of servicing the oil degrades and starts wearing out the rings, valve stem seals and bearings.
