Default 2.0D vs 2.2D

Hi

I currently drive a 2008 Honda Civic Type R, and want to change it for a more sensible car. The Mazda 6 looks to be a good compromise, performance wise. My budget is £7000 and would ideally like a 2.2D [163], but that is stretching the budget, and with getting married later this year adding to the car budget is going to be a struggle.

There are quite a few 2.0D or even 2.0 petrol 6's around, but most reviews seem to agree that the 2.2D is a much better engine. What do people here think? Is the 2.2D really that different? The 2.0 petrol is the slower car, will I find that frustrating to drive? I'll obviously test drive anything before I buy, but I'm interested in hearing about what they're like to live with.

Appreciate any advice, thanks in advance!
