Default 08 2.3 swap in a 05 Mazda 6

I have a 05 2.3l 6 214k developed knock. Looked for replacement motor couldn't find a 05 single coil pack under 105k, Found a very clean 08 with 4 coil packs 52K bought it for a very good price! After research I knew I had to change all accessory, pulleys and timing cover to use old wiring harness so ecu would work. Nothing I had read said anything about cam sensor clearance of tone ring on intake cam! After installing 08 motor upon thing to start it it would fire for a moment then quit and give a PO340 code. New sensor same result. more research found some leads suggested that on the 08 had a taller tone ring on intake cam because it used a 3 wire hall effect sensor need less clearances than the 2 wire magnetic 05 sensor which needed 4mm of clearance! Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any solutions for this other than swapping the intake cams (a major problem with motor in car not impossible but very difficult. Has anyone found a way to raise the 05 sensor 4mm or use a different one from a ford with a 2 wire shorter sensor? Any help would be great!!!

I do believe you would need to swap the camshaft.

Default 05 engine swap

Why then does
Mazda parts on line show intake cam part number L3E3-12-420 for both the 05 and 08 on the 2.3l Mazdz6. The swap of cams would take approximately 18 hr something I wouldn't waste time on if both parts are same. Do you have different info? If so a link to that would be great!! I did use the 08 valve cover to take advantage of the dip stick through head, I could revert to old valve cover but would have to change the oil pan to get a working dip stick! I did a lot of comparisons between covers no measurements looked different except dip stick through it instead in front of intake and into oil pan. Any data on this would be great !!! The motor still cranks for 1-2 seconds then fires for 1-2 seconds then quits or cranks without firing, turn key off then back again it will repeat the same. This is the same with cam sensor installed tight or raised up to 2 mm above flush in hole on valve cover. above that no fire at all. only code it throws is PO340 under all the above conditions. ALL HELP WELCOME!! Yes I tried a new sensor exact same new or old sensor.
