someone tell me if i am on the correct path. The car tries to start but when you release the key it dies. I hooked it to my code scanner to check for stored codes and there were none. so i tried to run a koeo check and the scanner says the ignition switch is in the off position when it is clearly in the on position. does this tell me that the whole issue is with the ignition switch itself? thanks.

 

Hi there.
Sounds like a key problem. It contains a chip which is 'read' by the ign switch.
It may have been corrupted in some way.

Have you tried one of the spare keys?
