Bought a 2010 mazda 5 cheap with rod knocking and found an 08 with 2.3 engine. Can i use this engine? car-part.com only pulls up 2010 engines to match. What is the differences? tia.

 

Pretty much any year 2.5 liter Ford Duratec.

The 2.3 is a crappy engine which has an extremely high failure rate; the Ford Duratech, basically the same motor but with some very important internal upgrades, has a very good reputation for longevity. As I wrote above, virtually all 2.5s will work in your car, just swap over the manifolds and sensors and you're good to go. Search the internet for details on the swap, it is a pretty common and well documented thing to do when the 2.3 fails.
