Default traction Control

Hi all,

New here, treat me gently.

Owned my 2.0 sport for 3 weeks now, so far so good.

The traction control warning light is on, went to my local dealer today, good news.

Had a good chat to the service manager, they are a customer of mine so i can trust them.

I asked if there was a definitive fix for tyre wear, he said no, expect 10-12K out of them and recommend changing tyres round, but is dependant on which manufacturer of tyre is used. Will get his recommended list of him next week and post them here.

Regarding the traction control, now there is a seperate part available, as opposed to the complete ABS unit (c.£1000), £400 fitted.

Top tip, my passenger window wasn't working from the drivers side, he suggested that it needed reprograming, it worked!!!, should work with other faulty windows.

Heres how:

With the ignition on, lower window with the working switch and hold down until you here a clunk.

Wait a few seconds and then raise the window, again holding up the switch until you here a clunk.

All done, did it to mine and it works, excellent, as i was dreading that it would need a complete switch assembly.

Finally, i have been dissapointed with my MPG, can't achieve more than 29 on the motorway, less round town. He is going to put on the machine to see if it needs setting up, will let you know the outcome when it is done. Was told that i should expect anywhere between 29-37 MPG

Cheers

Andy

Hi Doc, and Welcome to Mazdaforum!!

There is a definitive fix for tire wear, but your dealer won't tell you about it because they don't have the parts available to them through Mazda. They are available through the aftermarket only.
The fix is to install new "adjustable" upper rear control arms and set the rear camber to +/-1*, then make sure the toe-in is correct @ 0*.

They cost around $180 American/set of two and are not the easiest things to install. The rear suspension has to be completely loosened and lowered about an inch to get them in, so a professional is often required here. Yes, it will cost you a few bucks, but save you loads in tires over a couple of years.
This is what they are/look like:

edit: And depending how long you are on the motorway, don't expect too much more than 29-30mpg. Before we Americans started adding ethonal to our petrols (gasolines) which only makes fuel mileage go down, I managed only 32.3 over 1600 miles from south to north. 'Course my wife drove part of that way too and she is not the most steady throttle wise, and refuses (to this day) to use cruise control.
Still, your Mz5 is bigger, taller, slightly heavier and if it's an automatic, that would only make matters worse in the fuel mileage department.
