Default parking brake failure

We had a recent scary problem with our Mazda 5. We parked on a slight slope and engaged the parking brake till tight.(stick shift in neutral). Four people got out of the car and stood aroud it for a while before walking to a nearby house. Fifteen minutes later the car rolled down the hill and crashed into a rock wall. Fortunately no one was hurt. The car still had the parking brake engaged when we got to it. Mazada claims that the brakes test out to spec and that we must not have set the brake hard enough, yet it was set well enough to hold the weight of 4 extra people before we got out. Has anyone else heard of this type of problem?

Had the same thing happen to me. Got out and and a few seconds later began to roll. I,ve noticed I really have to pull up really hard (all the way up) on the e-brake in order for it not to move. My wife gives me hell when she gets in it and can't pull the brake back down. Figured I just wasn't lifting it all the way. I'm a new owner. Had my platinum M5 for about a month now. Greatest car(van) I've ever owned. Wife drives a 03 P5, loves it.
