New M5 2010 ?
Just wondering if anybody knows when Mazda plans to release or if they will release a 2010 Mazda 5 ?
Isn't there a full redesign due soon (5yrs later)
I am waiting for the 2.5L engine, hopefully it will make it there !
I know the M6 is out and M3 is following anybody know if the 5 is in the works ?
Or maybe they will come out with a 2009.5 model (MAZDA IS KNOW FOR THE .5YR)
Future buyer here
Thanks !

RE: New M5 2010 ?
i heard a rumor from a friend that the 2010 M5 (at least the one released in the US and Canada) will have a 200 horsepower turbo 2.4L 4cyl - Not sure if this is true, but I can tell you, an extra 40 horses in this car would be huge... half tempted to trade ours in if they do that, except I would take to big of a hit in depreciation.

I was thinking its more likely the M3 new 2.5 engine would make the cut on the M5 with 167hp & 168lb-ft of torque.
Still a step up compared to the 2.3L engine presently in the M5. The 153hp/148lb-ft torque just isn't enough Zoom-Zoom on an otherwise GREAT car.
Maybe the fuel econmy would suffer ?
Any idea when Mazda will release the NEW 2010 Mazda 5 ?
I am holding back on buying a 2009, i have a feeling the 2010 will have a engine upgrade especially when the competition Kia Rondo 's 2.4L engine ( 175hp/169lb-ft) being more powerful. 192Hp on the V6 version so a Mazda 5 with 200Hp would be amazing and kill the competition.
HURRY MAZDA....You can't build that engine fast enough. I'm in !!
Thanks !

I would think as with the 2010 3 seriesthe2.5L is going to bethe choice, upgraded from the current 2.3L.
I would be very surprised if they turboed it. That would be Speed5 territory and from what I"ve read the 5 series was never really intended as a performance car.

My friend is reliable, but not sure where he got his info from - I think he said he read it somewhere, but who knows. I have searched the web far and wide and cant find any info on the 2010.
Turbo or not, the 5 does need some more power - its a great car/van, but underpowered given the weight etc

Even the 3 could use a bit more punch to it. I"ve been saying almost since I got mine that another 25-40hp would make it feel (and be) much, much quicker. Ther 2.5L is rated @ 170hp here in the States, which to me is a very minor upgrade in power. You can get that, and morefrom the 2.3L w/the right (bolt-ons) intake and exhaust!!
BTW Guys: The M5 has the same 2.3L as the 3 series does, not a 2.4L. I don"t even think Mazda makes a 2.4L.

The 2.5L makes 170 Hp on the M6, but the same engine on the NEW M3 make less about 167-168 according to Mazda Canada website ?
I also agree that Mazda's engine are not that powerful. An example you take Honda's . Honda tends to make engines with less displacement yet more Hp compare to bigger engines. A civic SI ,2L engine makes 197 Hp (hig rev line) or simple civic 1.8L engine 140hP, Even Kia Rondo 's 2.4L engine makes ( 175hp/169lb-ft) ......I figure Mazda should pump this 2.5L a little more
Finally some Zoom-Zoom [8D]

Yes, but Honda engines are only able to make that HP up high in the RPM range. They sacrifice low-end torque for upper rpm HP, and Honda engines have to rev to benefit from those gains. That was my biggest complaint w/my Civic, especially as a street car 8000 rpm red lines??? WHOA!!! That"s motorcycle territory, but not that practical for an every daystreet car. Most of the time you"re driving under the power range!!
Shorter stroke engines will do that. ButSS enginesalso cause higher pistons/rotating mass speed, and in theory @ least, more heat and wear because of it.

i'm hoping there's no body changes, so any mods us previous years could take advantage of. Wouldn't it be nice if the back window opened like on some earlier civic hatchbacks? i could sneak in my groceries alot easier.
I SUPPOSE we could get a bigger engine in the car, as there seems to be a bit of space between my engine and firewall. I don't mind my 2.3L. Tho it sounds like diesels seem to get better mileage. I love the low gear ratio, but wish it was higher for the overdrive -that would get us less whine and better highway mileage! or....how do you say kilometerage? just say "more kliks per ltr" and be done w/it?
