Check front tyres for uneven tyre wear, check the service history to make sure its been serviced by mazda at the correct intervals and what level of service is due.

Aside from that its just the normal checks you do when you buy a car.

There is a recall in the USA for power steering issues - you may want to check if this is relevent to.

I have a 2.0 sport and think its great

As highlighted above pay close attention to the tyres - especially the inner edges. Once I got the tracking sorted my tyres have been okay. Also look for worn out rear shock absorbers - mine went after the car was 18mths old. In my case this could be seen with evidence of oil leakage.

Others have reported problems with the DPF. If you do not do much motorway driving keep the revs up and you should have no problems. Also check the oil level - how far above the F mark is it. Does it tally with the time since the last service. e.g. If the car is halfway between services the oil level should not be any higher than halfway between F and X. If it is, the DPF has been regenerating too much and could be a source of problems.

Be aware the cam belt will be due for renewal at 75000mls and this makes it an expensive service.

Overall I like my car but a big consideration for me is how good the local garage is.

Best Wishes.

Hi, you should have given us a bit more notice!!

I will reinforce what the other two contributors have said:

Shock absorbers are an issue on this age of Mazda 5.

Tyre wear has been a huge issue on the Sport.

the 75,000 service will be in excess of £700, so factor that in to your budget.

Let us know if you buy it.

Dave.
