Just paid over £400 for an oil change!

Just had my 12,000 mile service on my one year old 2.0 sport. How can they charge so much for so little actual work?

Is it worth continueing to take it to the main dealer for servicing? I know I'll invalidate the warranty if I don't but at £400 a service is the warranty worth it?

And what is with this digital service record, can independent garages access it and update it also?

I take you have the 2.0TD. The first service includes adjusting the valve clearances which isn't a quick job. The electronic service record cannot be accessed by other garages, if you want to have it serviced by an independent then keep the receipts.

£400 is still very steep even for the diesel.

I was quoted around £300 at 3 different dealers last year.

Did they list anything other than the service work ??

And only main dealers have the software to reset the dpf/oil level things after an oil change which if not done will supposedly result in damage to your DPF filter etc.

Here is a thread about 1st service:

First service charge

F.Y.I.

Last Sept my 2.0D Sport first service would have cost £334 at my main Mazda dealer. I actually got it for £234 but that is only because I had £100 off due to the tyre problems we all know about. I think the guide price before the service was actually carried out was about £350.
Labour charges have gone up at my garage by about 20% in the last year or so - maybe this is common.

Wait 'til you get to 75,000 miles, I've been quoted £680 !

It's timing belt change time. Ouch.

Dave.

first service £402

Had to take my car in yesterday for an oil change due to level being too high. Cost not including filter was £71.77.

I looked at dealers fixed price menu for a first service (diesel) and it is now £402. Looks like they have not heard of the recession.
