Default Diesel Pump Fault?

2009 Mazda 5 2.0 D sport.. The more powerful version..
Engine management fault code P0628 fuel pump circuit low.
At first, no symptoms, cleared code and all seemed OK for a week or so.
Then same code, high tickover 1000rpm revs limited to 2500.
Cleared code, immediately same fault.
Pulled electric plugs and replaced, cleared code, ok for 20 miles, then fault returned.

Pump sounds a tad ticky.

Time for a new pump? Or worth giving terminals a proper clean? Can it be stripped and cleaned? Maybe something else?

Guess only pump is on top of engine, right hand side, rear. Not another low pressure pump somewhere?

is the filter the canister just behind the pump?

Just spent a small fortune on cam oil seal and new egr, so budget and patience running thin. Hoping for a quick fix to tide me over a month or two.

Cheers.

My car, 2002 Mazda Protege (manual transmission), has a bad fuel pump. It starts and runs, but the pressure is not enough. Engine misfires. Spark plug and coil also need replacement. Can't afford repair cost and no one is interested in buying this car so far ($400). So I have to Kodi nox decide between scrap it and keep driving it.

After a fair bit of research and ensuring there was no issue with the wiring looms, we narrowed it down to a suspected failure of the suction control valve.
I purchased a new valve, on the day I was going to fit it, I started the engine and the fault had cleared and full power had been restored. This was a couple of weeks ago and it has been fine ever since.
Love it when they just fix themselves.
Still non the wiser though.
