Long story short - ended up w/a 2013 Mazda5 after my 2013 CX-5 was totaled. In the rush of purchasing the 5 before the rental was due back I did not notice that my 5 was missing its antenna (has the shark-fin-esque mount, but nothing threaded into the threaded female antenna spot).

Could be why my reception is horrible? I read that the head unit is cheaply made to begin with, but I'd like to try and actually place an antenna.

With that in mind, any suggestions for quality? Amazon reviews are hit and miss (on details and credibility), so I'd like some input from the relative pros.
