I have a 2010 Mazda 5 with 1.6CD diesel engine. Since a couple of weeks I'm having engine problems. From time to time the engine stutters and then the engine warning light goes on (gear symbol with "!"). The engine then has lost torque but one is still able to drive. When stopping the car, turning the engine on and off, the problem goes away.

At the garage, they couldn't find a problem. The analysis tool didn't show any error in the logs and a 30 km test drive didn't reveal any engine issue or power degradation.

After few days, the problem came back. Stutter, warning light, turbo gone.

Again, they couldn't find anything with the analysis device. I asked them to update the firmware, because I assumed either a firmware or electronics problem. Probably the analysis tool did a reset. They updated the firmware and then the engine was fine for a few weeks.

Did anyone have such a problem?

I assume a fault in the electronics or software because it immediately goes away after engine restart.

 

It's a malfunctioning exhaust return valve.
