Default 2006 cutting out

M5 with a 5 [170k)
When in gear driving it FEELS like its cutting out under a load (pressing on the gas)
In neutral it revs out smoothly as normal.

i did not have a a CEL on at all.
-changed plugs no difference
- when i was doing the plugs one of the coils came apart so i thought... oh there is the problem. So i changed the coils.
runs the same.

Other side notes
i did a 3.5 hour trip(each way) i got 27mpg doing 75ish. So it running fine..

clutch shutters at take off.(ill post another thread)

if i put it in neutral and just roll(highway speeds) everything is quiet. So it is not suspension issue(new struts n shocks all the way around.

At what level of throttle is it cutting out? For example, light, mid, WOT. Does WOT work well or do you experience any miss/hesitation there?

I know you said it is quiet on the highway, but you said the issue is a FEEL. When you are on the highway, cruising at a steady RPM, do you notice the miss/hesitation?

Does this occur when A/C is on, off, or both?

Have you scanned it for codes? Not all codes will bring on the engine light.

-code p2610 internal engine off timer performance. 0----- I didn't get a CEL I installed the replacement coils. I'm going to put a meter to them this week.
-WOT throttle for sure.
- AC on or off still has the miss.

As I'm still driving I'm starting lean towards 2 issues...(this is just a guess)
cut out issue and clutch issue. the car seems to be getting louder. almost a vibration if you will.
for now i"m just looking to remedy the CEL. since I can work on it and put it back together for work the next day.

That is an interesting code. I dont have the service manual for your gen Mazda5, but looking at mine (gen2 mazda 5 has the same code and name) the ultimate issue could be with the PCM. Not saying you should run out and buy a PCM. Personally, I would start by checking your wiring harness for any damage. What brand coils did you install?

.
welll.... ran to get lunch and at some point I looked down and the CEL light is off. I didn't get a chance to get on it. but the nosie/ louder motor/ vibration is still there.
so I'm going to looking to the the tranny as the issue...
Since im going to order an TOB any way i'm going to pull it regardless.
can someone tell me if and other Mazda transmission bolts up to this motor/car

side note: I have about 5 pick-a-parts here in houston so there are al least 2 M5's at each yard. I have yet to see a MT M5 though...

and even though i'm having this issue. it has been a solid car(160k). i have had it about 3 months. replaced tires and struts because i was going to use it for traveling.
I have taken a 15h trip(one way in it)
7 hour trip 4 or 5
3-4 hour trips car is doing fantastic.

If youre going to go through the trouble of pulling the transmission to install a throw out bearing, you might as well put in a new flywheel and clutch.

You said that when on the highway and in neutral it is quiet. Are you putting the transmission in neutral (no gear selected) with the clutch engaged or pressing the clutch while keeping the car in gear?

Have you checked the fluid level in your transmission? Maybe do a drain and fill.

Usually a slipping clutch is noticeable when you give the car gas and the revs increase but you don't actually increase in speed/acceleration. I'm not familiar with it giving a miss or hesitation feeling. If you are having ignition problems, they may not appear when you are in neutral revving the engine. It may appear smooth, but once under load you will notice the issues. When you are in neutral can you slowly increase your RPM without feeling any rumble or stutter? Again, raise RPMs slowly and smoothly.

I don't know why you think it is your transmission, though. Unless you have broken gears then I dont see how your manual transmission will lead to a miss or hesitation type of feeling. A slipping clutch might give someone a feeling of that, but if it is a clutch issue then that has nothing to do with the transmission itself. I had replaced the 6-speed on my gen2 because the fluid level went too low and it developed a bearing howl. For me, it was very clear that it was isolated to the transmission because my noise only occurred when in gear, rolling, and had the clutch engaged. I had to order a second hand G66M-R transmission from an auto wrecker in Canada. I'm not sure what other transmission will bolt up to your car. I believe they all have the same bell housing bolt pattern (the 2.3 and 2.5 blocks) but I believe your main issue will be in sourcing CV axles that will match the differential splines and your hub splines, as well as lengths. As well as the flywheel/clutch assembly splines. I could be wrong about that. I didn't do much research into the 5-speed transmission when I was looking for a replacement for my car. If you do want to go down that route, I used https://www.car-part.com/ to find an wrecker who had the correct transmission for my car. Again, I had to find one from Canada because there are so few of these manual transmission compact mini vans in the US.

Maybe I am not seeing the whole picture or I am misunderstanding, but if I were you, I would focus on your ignition system, wiring, and PCM before ripping out a transmission.
