Default Overall reliability for the Mazda 3

Hi everyone!

I'm currently looking to buy my first car. And I'm torn between a Toyota Prius and the 2014 mazda 3.
Seems like a no Brainer. I'm getting both cars for roughly the same price. I love driving the 3 a lot!
But the problem comes in terms of reliability. Toyota is known to be reliable and I don't know if the new Mazda 3 is or not. Obviously the prius has more room and better mpg. But it's not fun to drive at all.
The Mazda is amazing to drive, looks great and I had a big fat smile on my face driving it.
Still reliability is a huge factor for me. I intend on taking it in for regular maintenance but yeah, feel free to help me make a decision.

Thank you.

It's real simple, do you want to drive something which is enjoyable, or something as much fun as watching paint dry?

Mazda 3 is very reliable.

Battery/powerpack replacement in the Prius is not cheap.
