I will likely buy a 2015 model car to replace my 2007 Honda Fit. I'm considering the new Fit, the new Ford Focus Ecoboost, the new VW Golf, and the Mazda3.

I've been driving manual transmissions since 1980, and I'm not about to change. I will consider the Mazda3 even if the 6 spd manual is offered only in the lower trim with the 2.0 engine, but it will probably take the combination of the 2.5 & 6 spd manual to tip the scales in favor of the Mazda3.

I might also consider the CX-5, but only if the higher trim with 2.5 is available with a 6 spd manual.

Apparently some auto makers think people buy cars with manual transmissions only because they have a limited budget and can't afford features in the higher trims. At least that option is available in a base CX-5, while it's not in other compact SUV's.

I'm in the Chicago suburbs, and I have not gone into a dealer. I doubt a salesman would know much about a vehicle not yet available, so I'd rather not take an unnecessary trip for nothing but irritation.

Being a Mazda forum, I thought perhaps the folks here would have the latest info (which is often the case with enthusiast forums).
