So I know from what I read here and on tirerack that the stock all seasons are junk
in the snow. I really don't want to run summer and winter tires.
What would you recomend for a good all around performing all season tire?

I'm not sure if they come in the size for your M3, but the Bridgestone B450s I have on my Malibu work well in snow...if I remember correctly, they're 205/65SR15.

Tall sidewall, but they work well on my Malibu.

I was looking at the Kumho Ecsta ASX

 

bfg traction t/a are great

 

I'm running those right now... 225/45-17's.
My only real complaint is straight line traction. Get off the clutch a little too quick in the rain, and when don't I,and whether you intended to or not, they are gonna spin.
They handle great in the corners, wet or dry, but off the line I'm not impressed.
