I recently changed oil and filter on my 2015 3Sport, 2.0 L Skyactive G.
I noticed quite a bit of dampness around the oil filter area, even some droplets (you can see one in the pics) First reaction was "crap, oil leak, oil pan? gasket?" With finger and smell inspection, the droplets appeared dark green and did not smell or feel oily. I suspected another fluid. Inspecting closer, I followed the fluid trail from further up the engine and the trail stopped at the bottom of the water pump.
Conclusion: water pump failure, possibly the seal; and supported by the fact the FL22 long life coolant is green.
So today, I'm replacing the water pump, O-ring on the intake tube, and both the water pump belt and serpentine belt since I'm in that far and they have to be removed anyway. Odometer is 246K kms = 154K miles so, I'm considering this an age thing. Pump replacement and preventative maintenance with the belts. I'm using Mazda OEM parts, they were actually the most cost effective.
