Transmission Slips
My son has a Mazda 3 and seems every day now the transmission slips from drive into neutral and then back into drive. The "D" light flashes as it slips into neutral.
Kinda stumped as to the cause.

It helps when asking to supply some service information
Year?
Engine size?
How many miles?
When and what mile was the last basic pan fluid and filter service done ?
When and at what miles was any service done and what was it?
When was the last check engine light and what was the codes found
was the TCM (depends on the year of Mazda) ever check for codes and what was found ?

I did not see any other thread relating to this issue.
I will check the code tomorrow and as far as I know the trans has not been in for service. At least not in the two years my son has had it and the engine light is currently on.
The year is 2013 and engine size I think is 2.0

Without knowing or answering my questions no one can do anything except "GUESS"!
This is a not really helpful givin we have no idea all the condition in your area you live and drive in?
If you have that many miles and don't know the service history you should seek a Transmission service shop as soon as possible for at least a pan oil change and filter service. by dropping the pan there will be good idea the condition of your transmission.
Aa s rule automatic transmission should be serviced every 40k miles minimum for its complete service life.
Not at least doing the basic service by 100k mile or more it is more likely the transmission will have problems. At 200k miles I suspect the transmission is in the beginning stages of failing.

Well without being able or knowing the answers to all my questions I would seek a service shop that can at least do a pan fluid and filter service.
My guess is that the transmission fluid is extremely dirty as well the pan bottom and there is varnish build up on the valve body parts all from lack of simple and periodic transmission fluid services?
Continue to drive without at least a pan drop and inspection will likely reuslt on the transmission withpout notice to stop shifting correctly.

Best do the minimum to get what will yield the info you need to make the next decision ...if its worth repairing / rebuilding : replacing
- #1 Get a cost on a basic Trans diagnosis - OBD -( with road test ) and avoid a full pan drop as you will be commited to that entire service , fluid , rtv - gasket , filter , labor - and if you only get a drain - fill that should tell the story of the fluid -/and pan bolt if covered with metallic shavings - will save u $$.- over 200k is a pretty good life on that trans ~ you are a winner either way -
