Default Transaxle Sight hole question

My wife has a 2007 Mazda3 and on the transaxle next to the oil pan there is a sight hole on the bottom of the transaxle that allows you to see the drive plate inside. There is no cover on this opening and there never was. It seems to me that some type of plug should go in this hole to keep debris out. There also seems to be some oil coming out of this area as well. I have noticed this since the first oil change, car only has 11,200 miles on it. Has anyone else noticed this? Just want to know if there should be a plug in there. If anyone else has noticed this I would just like to know if that hole should be open like that. Just want some confirmation before I takeitto the stealership.

Thanks

From what I understand, the hole is there for final inspection.

As for the oil, I had the same problem and the sealant around the oil pan was wearing out faster than normal (only had 14,500mi on the car). Dealership fixed it under warranty.

Does it have a 2.0 or a 2.3 in it, the oil filter is off center of it and it could be the filter leaking also.
And there is not a plug that goes into it, I just wish they had put it directly under the oil filter for ease of changing it.

If I am correct, he is not talking about the hole in the plastic air shield, he is talking about the hole in the actual transaxle casing.

That"s how I read it too, though I can"t think if mine has that hole or not. I don"t remember seeing anything like that or I'm sure I would"ve noticed.

SlveMaz3, is yours an automatic, or stick?

Mine is the Auto/w the sportronic. It has the hole in the casing, I was told it was for inspection at the factory.
