'Just bought a Mazda 3. Has anyone towed anything with their Mazda 3 5-door? I've found a Class 1 hitch and trailer for towing my sport bike but need to know if this is REALLY possible and/or successful.

Your best bet would be to check the owner's manual.

 

Which will tell you that towing is not recommended.I just posted for a 5 owner asking the same. I have a Draw-Tite, but hardly ever have I used it. It's a strain and not recommended for heavier loads. A bike rack or small open trailer perhaps.

 

BTW: It's rated Class II, but...... ???? ?? ?? ? ????

 

Thanks! It does say to not tow with the 2008 M3 but, there's so may Class 1 trailer hitches available for the M3. I'd seriously only tow two sportbikes on a small trailer on a rare basis. Personal experience is what I'm looking for and maybe an explaination of why not tow.

 

I doubt you'll have any real problems. Do you have the 5-sp or the ATX?
I towed that trailer from Pennsylvania (< < < aren't you impressed that I know how to spell it correctly?) back to Texas (1640 miles) and it was a rough ride. +/-15mpg and plenty of times I had to ride in 4th to get over gentle or long hills.
I also brought a walk-behind ditch digger home with it and that wasn't something I'd want to do every day either.

Oooooo!!! An auto. I'd be a little more worried about that if I wuz U.
Plus I too was looking at that same trailer. The springs are Chinese and prone to failure... so I'm told. Pat Goss of MotorWeek (Goss's Garage segment) recently mentioned this ona piece on PBS as well. If true, you could easily lose control and crash should one break while towing a load.
Something to consider.....
