Tires
Hi all,
I have a 2008 mazda 3 S and I am in need of new tires soon. I have 28k on my car and I have an aggressive driving style. I have the stock 16 inch tires with the toyo proxies. What is the largest width that you all have put on in which they dont rub? And what tires do you recommend. I did some research in the search section but new brands come and go. Thanks in advance! |
With the OE 6.5" wheel width and a slightly higher sidewall/aspect ratio over the 17's, you might just get away w/225's on the stock wheels. |

Don't buy toyo again. I had Proxes on my 3 and they would not pass state inspection after 12,000 miles. Worn out! They were original equipment, no warranty.

Awhile back I wanted too replace the noisy goodyear tires on my 3 because the noise was a bit much.
I asked here on the forum, and did some research also. I decided because the goodyears have a lot of tread still on them, I would put up with the noise until they are worn out. When I do get around to replacing them, I am going with Yokohama yk520 or their "Sdrive" series. Good ratings on both. Bob. |

They don't look bad, and the $$$ is right too. I would ask about silica content in the tread compound when you call them though. That has a big effect on how they will handle in the rain and snow. I noticed that more customers gave it a higher rating than TR's own though. But not by much. |
Yea, thanks! I will def ask about that. I never knew that! Thank you for the info! I also want to ask them the widest size they recommend. I know you said 6.5 but I am not sure about the exact size.

Depends on if treadwear is an issue for you. Notice the 400 treadwear rating. Our Toyo's have a 300 wear rating. Mine are done. Just found out after rotating. I need new ones as well. I'll be looking for higher tread ratings. 600 range.

I know the tires I am getting in the tire and wheel package I ordered are a 380 for the tread wear. The Toyos on my truck are a 400 and I have over 45,000 on them now with at least 1/3 of the tread left so I am thinking I should get around 45-50 K out the the new tires on the Mazda.
