I think I should replace the spark plugs in our son’s 2012 Mazda 3 sedan. I believe the Mazda P/N is LFJD-18-110-9U. They are about $15 each.

are these made by NGK for Mazda? Can I use aftermarket NGK plugs? If so, does anybody know the P/N’s?

And, is there any other items replace? Car is running great and has about 65,000 mikes in it. Want to keep it going.

You can use them, or you can also go with less expensive choices. There are many that will work just fine at RockAuto.
I do however recommend changing them at much less miles. This may also adjust your thinking on what to buy for spark plugs.

Unfortunately, there is so much misconception on the forums about spark plugs in general its hard to really make informed choices.

There is almost no auto manufacture anymore that engineer specific and manufacture their own spark plugs.

 

Mazda has used different manufactures for "Genuine" spark plugs. Mostly NGK or Denso.

I got an email back from the Mazda dealer saying I should use a PE5R-18-110 P/N (I guess the one I had might be old). He said to change them every 60,000 miles and that a set of 4 are $120.00. The NGK one's are only about $10 each (NGK 94214, ILKAR7L11 Laser Iriidium).

I did see some on eBay (Mazda ones) but am not sure they're ok or not -- seems too good a deal? It's at https://www.ebay.com/itm/234620532982.

Let me know if you think it's safe to get the NGK (or eBay).

Regarding spark plugs and any aftermarket parts... DO NOT use any source other then the manufacture website application guide. On line parts sales and information is often incorrect and almost always outdated.

 

I don't trust the legitimacy of Genuine plugs online. I bought a set of "Mazda" plugs off eBay, they were dud, 1 plug had the porcelain loose .

I trust NGK guides 100% ( however I use my eye-cryometer to compare old & new )
