I just bought this car back in July and I'm absolutely loving it. However I recently discovered how easy it is to scratch the plastic lens over the instrument cluster, possibly the softest plastic in the world. I (stupidly) passed my car wash's vacuum cleaning wand over the instrument cluster to remove some dust, and was left with these horizontal scratches which are annoying to look at in the day or at night.
The way I see it I have two options
1) Use a power tool and some Mother's polish and wax to try and buff out these scratches. This video shows a pretty convincing job done on an older vehicle, using Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish and then Carnauba Cleaner Wax Paste. Has anyone tried this?
2) Replace the instrument cluster lens. According to my local dealership, an official replacement part would be $96. The service would be about double that, so I'm thinking about swapping it myself. Can anyone offer any advice on how hard it is to take apart this part of the dashboard and replace the lens?
