Default Power locks/alarm on 3 SP - can it be silenced?

The dealer tells me I'm stuck with the horn sounding when I lock or unlock my '05 Mazda 3 SP. I find this hard to believe. Has anyone figured out how to arrive and depart without waking the neighbors? Must be a way to lock the little bugger silently. Door lock buttons and key in door also sound the horn (!).

Hi Twiglet. As you mentioned before, we both have the same car and basically got them at the same time. I had a PT Cruiser before the Mazda and every time I locked the PT remotely it did a quick honk of the horn. I just got used to hitting the automatic door lock after I opened my door and I didn't need to use the remote.

As for the Mazda, how are you locking it? I hit my lock button once and the lights flash and I hear the doors lock. If I hit the button twice I get the quick horn sound. Not sure if this helps but with the remote butlocking with the auto button in the car works the same as my Cruiser did.

Hi CenterShock

Thanks for your reply. I've tried just about every form of hitting the transmitter from short to long hits but this car honks if I use the door buttons or the key in the lock too so I think I'm going to have to see if they can plug it into a computer at the dealership and reprogram it. Thanks again. I'm sure you love your new car as much as I love mine!
