the bigges thing with getting the alarm system is the INSTALL, make sure who ever does it that they have done ALOT before, I have seen More than my share of these comming back becuase places use a wire connector called T taps, these things are EVIL and they corrode and then the system either doesnt work , or intermintent issues.....

How much does an install job usually run? And should I have it installed by the folks I purchase it from?

well depends on who does it. you can add a remote starter to the mix also, but if you do this, you will have to give up a key for the remote starter, it goes up in the dash, in a little module, that tricks the car to thinking the key is in igintion. The install will probally run a couple of hundred bucks, depending on what options you want. You can add options, such as tilt, (in case the car gets towed) glass breakage. (thats obvious) you can get noise generators put in them, to help deter the ppl from staying inside the car, and fuel shut off or an engine kill, these will all help keep the car. But also will add to the bill. Just make sure that you ask about what kind of warrenty the install itself has.

a decent normal security system will probally run ya around mid 3 to maybe 4 hundrend bucks, but they are way worth it,
