I currently have a 2006 Mazda3. I have lowered the vehicle with a 1.8" lowering kit from Eibach, the sportline kit. Recently My parking brake has begun to stick. I took it back to the dealer whose Mazda tech told me the lowering kit is causing the brake cable to bind. I will only add the hairy redneck who is the Mazda tech looks more like he should be working on a '76 Camaro.

Has anyone ever heard of a lowering kit causing the parking brake cable to bind?

I wouldn't think that it would affect the parking brake. I had Pro-kit springs and no problems. Lowering the suspension doesn't change the actual geometry of your suspension, your ride height is just lower. It would be no different than having a heavy load in your car where it compressed the stock suspension.

Have him explain how it affects the parking brake. Does it change the length of the cable? Does it change the angle of the cable into the caliper?

 

You just ran into a "mechanic" that is just looking for an excuse to hassle you about problems that werent caused by aftermarket products, did this guy even offer a solution other than removing the springs, i guess he thinks if it aint a mazdaspeed part something will break or go wrong.

 

Which only confirms what I already knew. I took it to the place that installed the kit and he pulled the driver side rear wheel and showed me the parking brake cylinder on the caliper sticking. I have a feeling the mechanic looked at it, saw it was lowered and said that was the reason it was sticking. Thanks for the replies guys...
