Default MAZDA 323 1.6l TIMING BELT INSPECTION

I HAVE A 1988 323 hATCH SE WITH 11,000 MILES , I would like to inspect the timing belt,
the top cover has 4 bolts..the top 2 are easy....my question is the middle bolts do they
have to be completey removed or just loosened? to remove the top cover....
any tips would be greatly appreciated...I believe it has the original belt.
Yours truly, Tony

TONY YOU ONLY HAVE TO REMOVE THE THREE BOLTS HAD ARE EASY TO REACH, WHEN VERY CAREFULLY BENT IT AWAY ABOUT
AN INCH. PEN LIGHT WORKS BEST, INSPECT FOR CRACKS, IF YOU CAN GET YOUR FINGER OR SCREWDRIVER TRY TWISTING.
ANOTHER IDEA, TURN STEERING ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT, USE A 21MM SOCKET AND EXTENSION, TURN CLOCKWISE AS YOU
LOOK AT THE MOTOR. THIS WAY YOU CAN COMPLETELY CHECK THE BELT.

Thanks for that tip...I did it today and the belt looks good I was only able to see the top of the belt ( smooth surface ) and it was
clean, no cracks also inside the cover was extremely clean no leaks no belt dust etc it appears that time has had little or no
effect on it....Why dont they make the T-belt covers CLEAR PLASTIC ? just a thought....Thanks again...Tony LI NY
