Default Mazda 3 Interior Lighting

I'm not sure if you guys noticed, but when i drop my girl off from a date she is always looking for the "unlock" button for the door. Is there anyway to change the lighting or add lighting to the buttons?

If you've done anything like this please let me know.

be a gentleman and at least unlock the door for her...or you open the door for her and walk her to her door. hahha

i dont think there is a way to light up the auto-lock controls. maybe you could rig something up though.

This is from corwest on mazda3forums. See THIS thread for details.

As for the unlock button I can tell you one of the ideas that came up in that thread. Drill a hole in the button and then fill the hole with clear acrylic, getting it as flush with the face of the button as you can. Install a red LED behind the acrylic so that the acrylic glows when the LED is lit. Wire the LED up to a switched 12v power source that's hot with the ignition.

good find icspots. i really like how that looks. the idea of drilling into the unlock/lock buttons seems like a sleek idea too.

A related question. Directly above each of the 3 gauges, there is atiny singlewhite light that comes on when you first enter the car (along with the dome light). Butitturns offimmediately when you start the car (along with the dome light). Any way to keep them on?

They would be nice to be able to have on during daylight, they throw an extra little bit of light on the white background gauges I have on my 3, which frankly can get a little hard to see at dusk (just before the blue kicks in) or on a very cloudy day.

On the S models it's a blue light and it comes on as you describe, but also w/the parking/headlights/gauge background.
I don't know of a way to do that, but to get in there and connect them to a switched source. But then you'd probably lose them as a welcome light though too?
Dunno, Uber.
