Default Maza mpg

Hi. I got a new Mazda 3 fastback 2.0 se-l nav delivered last week. I have done a few hundred miles and the mpg seems awful. It states I'm getting 27 mpg. It should be 55-77. I know they never do as advertised but 50% seems ridiculous. Any ideas please. Thanks

Are you serious; 55-77 mpg? I don't believe Mazda has ever advertised such high mileage.

I strongly suspect those numbers are for the Diesel versions of the Mazda3; a gasoline powered 2.0 liter Mazda3 combined with the extra large Imperial Gallon (you didn't mention you were in the UK in your original post) may get near the bottom of range, but no higher.

OZ spec 2.0ltr Petrol will get between 45 & 50 MPG - Combined (urban & Highway )

They dropped the diesel Mazda 3 when the BN replaced the BM model.

Looking at the Old BM with the 2.2 diesel, MPG is 56 - Combined ( urban & highway )

Wallace,

Welcome to the forum and Mazda ownership. Once you own a Mazda, I bet you will only be happy driving a Mazda. I have had 3 in the past and currently own 2.

I suspect the computer is set for US gallons and you were anticipating imperial gallons. I would think this is an easy fix in the set-up options. I have played around in my Mazda 3 and was able to change everything to metric, I did not see imperial gallons but I was not looking at the time.

Even based on US gallons, 27 mpg is lower than it should be unless you are making only extremely short trips. I get 30 to 32 miles per US gallon with the larger 2.5 engine. We also have a 2016 Mazda2 (Scion IA) with the 1.5 engine. We get 37 to 39 miles per US Gallon or 44 to 47 miles per imperial gallon in the Mazda2.

I would think that you should get around 35 miles per US gallon or 42 miles per imperial gallon.

The first thing I would do is calculate the mileage based on the gas you add and the odometer. This will tell you if you have a problem with the car or the computer. If it is still under warranty, talk to the dealership and have whichever problem addressed.

Congratulations with your new purchase. I hope the mileage frustration has not spoiled the Mazda ownership experience for you.
