Default Loss of Power then regains after billows of black smoke! Guidance please

Hi I have a 2004 Mazda 3 TS. Right from the beginning I had probs with this loss of uumpff. When Im driving and say Im going up hill it just wont pulland it will billow out all this black smoke.

Also at times when Im just doing ordinary driving if I put my foot down to accelerate it will loose power until it puffs out black smoke then it just starts pulling again.

Im taking it to garage next week but Id like a bit of a heads up of what might be wrong??? Any ideas guys

Thanks Elaine

What's the service record?
plugs, ign coils changed?
PCV ever changed (this is a must).
Ever put in fuel system cleaner?
Black smoke usually means it's too rich. O2 sensor getting lazy.
Ever clean throttle body and MAF sensor?
