Key Fob Horn Alert

Hey Jack! Welcome....
I can think of three things it might (or might not) be offhand:
1) If all the doors and hatch are not closed properly, or is not being detected as being fully closed, the horn will not sound.
2) The horn itself, wiring or connections are faulty
3) The horn relay is on the fritz.
These last two should be easy to check by just using the horn from the steering wheel.
4) I just thought of this one: How is the battery in the remote?? I don"t know for sure, but it could be a warning to replace the battery??

Thank you virgin1for the reply!

Narrowing it down I think #4 might be the culprit, all the doors having to be shut tightwas myfirst troubleshoot.

When the horn does'nt toot the signal lights also intermittently do'nt light, so it probably is'nt the horn connection, also the horn does toot from the steering wheel.

I will try replacing the key fob battery, although the second key fob creates the same problem.

Regards,
Jack

I suppose it could also be a problem with the remote system itself.

Hmmm? I"m sorry to hear that. That"s not promising.
Well, here"s an oldie but a goodie! Whenall else fails, try resetting the PCM/ECU!
If you don"t know how, it"s easy.
Disconnect the two battery cables (10mm wrench.) Hold them together (+ plus -) for @ least 30secs and reconnect.
You will lose your radio settings, trip mileage, cruise "on" setting and clock, so you may want to make a note of all that stuff and reset it when you are done.
It"s worth a try. And, what can it hurt?

Hi Virgin1,

The problem had stopped after getting rear ended at a stop sign a while back(@5 MPH) no biggy. Last night DW told me it happened again.

Well I wouldn't normally suggest that as a means to fix a remote problem, but if it works...... :P

Yes, if it weren"t so sad, it would be funny!! :D:D:D
I think you"ve got us stumped, and it could be time for a trip to the dealer, or at least a friendly call about it. Perhaps they have heard of this and have an easy fix you might do yourself?
