Default HELP,noise when I go over bumps.

Hey guys, I have a 2008 Mazda 3 GT hatchback with 59k miles. I have had an issue for the past 2 months with a loud rattling noise coming from the rear of my car when I go over bumps in the road.

I have had my brakes done and rear rotors replaced recently, I had a mechanic look at my car and took him for a ride so he could hear this noise for himself. He took apart the brakes, looked at the shocks, bushing, sway bars...and still cannot find what this noise is coming from.

Basically the noise sounds like loose metal rattling around by the rear tires, it only makes the noise when I'm hitting bumps and when I press the brake while going over bumps, it doesn't make that rattling noise.

It's the most annoying thing ever, has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on what it could be would be great.

Thankyou all in advance!

Maybe, but the thing is when I press the brake, I don't get that rattling noise, if I do it's very faint.

I don't know how good your mechanic is. I would ask him if he used all new anti rattle hard ware on the rear brakes.
What about taking the car to another mechanic for evaluation?

Get someone to recheck the tightness of the rear swaybar nuts.

The noise stops when I press the brake pedal though, would it still be the sway bar? I hear a clicking noise in the rear sometimes as I drive too.

I have to agree with Tanprotege. Have you ever installed new brake hardware? If not this is more than likely your problem. I had this noise happen to me after a brake service, he had to re-do the 1 side as it was making noise and told me to get a new hold down kit. I did next year. Good thing, because it needed it. Here's a pic of mine (attached).
