Front End Conversion
In the market for a Mazda3. I have a few questions of which through reading the sticky's and doing a forum search i have not found the answers to.
1st I read in a sticky as follows: Q: Whats the difference between the models between 04 and 09?
A: The differences are that most problems with the 04 were fixed in the 05, the 07+ just have different body dimensions in the front and rear bumper and wheels, but have the same bolt pattern if you wanna throw on a bodykit, oh and the 07+ have a extra cat converter after the exhaust , so intead of 2 (as if that werent bad enough) they have 3.
It is to my understanding that the first generation of mazda3's were from 04-08. Is 09 in that generation as well? That's not really what matters here but.... I want to know if the front bumpers/ headlights and fenders hold the same bolt pattern from the first to second generations. I want a second generation with a first generation front end, if they don't share the same bolt pattern then i can settle.
2nd: I went to a local dealer in Mass and got in conversation with both a sales rep and the shop foreman after a test drive. I had the question of whether the variable valve timing was actuated via electronically through rpm specs (similar to honda VTech), or was it constantly adjusting to oil pressure (similar to toyota VVTi). Either way it didn't matter, the engine runs nice in the 2.5's, but it's good to know. The foreman gave me a roundabout answer of having a combination of dependency of RPM's and Oil Pressure..... I Mean if you want to get technical, no **** you need oil pressure to make an engine run. But when he talked condescendingly to me, it leaves me with the question in mind of " Is this guy blowing smoke up my anus?". I'd prefer toyota VVTi off of oil pressure, only because as oil pressure increases (RPM's increase) the cam will advance respectfully. Rather than waiting for RPM's to increase to a predetermined spec. and then allowing more oil pressure to kick in to move over the cam.
All in all I have a lot more questions but these first two come to mind first.
Thank You in advance,
John O.
